Frequently Asked Questions

Here are some questions you may have that I can provide some basic answers for, such as time for completeing projects, care for your boards, or about the custom wood carving.

What type of finish do you use?

The finish on all food grade boards is Walrus Oil followed by Walrus Oil wood wax, all of witch contain pure mineral oil, coconut oil, beeswax, and vitamin E.

All other finishes on non food grade projects are a combination of Rubio Monocoat, for a natural look, Birchwood Caseys Oil, for a more polished/glossy look, and each finished with Renaissance Wax.

How long for custom projects?

For cutting boards/charcuterie boards roughly 2 weeks unless I have a significant amount of orders backed up.

For custom projects including carvings, please message me.

How do I care for my cutting board/charcuterie board?

To clean you board simply rinse with hot water and a small bit of soap and dry immediately. Alternatively you can use hot water and vinegar for a more natural cleaning solution (my preference).

Never soak in water and never put in the dishwasher it will warp and destroy your board.

If you think your board needs to be refreshed you can lightly sand it with 400 grit sandpaper and then apply a cutting board oil/wax of your choice. I use Walrus Oil and Walrus Oil wax.

How do I know what wood I would like my project to be made from?

Most projects I work with are made from from Walnut and Maple, each wood type has standard and highly figured variations all of which I use. The highly figured pieces are more pricey due to being highly prized and rare.

If you have a type of wood in mind just message me, I can see if the local mill shop carries it or if we can custom order it.
